Privacy Policy

We take your privacy very seriously and will only process your data legally and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. When you use our Services or Website, like most service providers, we will process some of your data. What we won’t do is sell or rent your personal data to anyone else so they could contact you directly.

This Privacy Policy sets out what data we collect and what we do with it. It also forms a part of the terms and conditions which make up the Agreement between you and us for the use of the Website and the Services. By using the Website or the Services you consent to our using your data in this way.

We may amend this Privacy Policy by posting a new version on the Website and/or notifying you in some other way. If you do not agree with any amendment, you can cancel your Agreement with us by telling us, or by simply ceasing to use the Website and the Services.

  1. What personal data do we collect?

    We collect personal data (data which relates to you specifically and could be used to identify you) when you interact with us. The principal in the following ways we do this are:
    • if you register as a Member we ask you for certain details (e.g., username, email address etc.), without which you won’t be able to register), as well as some optional information about you and your background which you can decide whether or not to give us (e.g., your age, sex, likes and dislikes, or where you are located);
    • if you sign up to receive newsletters or other information from us we also ask for your email address and maybe some other details;
    • if you write to us or email us (e.g., with a question or a complaint), then we have the email address from which you sent the message, but we would only use it to answer you and wouldn’t store it for any other purpose;
    • if you use the Services to send a communication to another person, this may include their that person’s email address or other contact data;
    • you shouldn’t ever post personal contact data (whether yours or anyone else’s) on the public parts of the Website – but if you do then we will be storing it for you. Anyone could then see it and use it to contact the person whose data it is.
  2. How do we process personal data?

    The basic reasons we use and hold your personal data are to communicate with you about and manage the Services. The main ways we would do this are:
    • to enable you to create, access and manage a personal account or dedicated space for your Content on the Website;
    • to provide you with information you have requested (e.g., a newsletter, answers to specific questions);
    • to follow up any complaints you make e.g., about other users or misuse of Content;
    • to enable communications you send to reach their destination;
    • to enable you to receive communications from other Members or users, and to inform you about other Members with something in common who you might want to contact, or to inform them about you;
    • to communicate changes in the Services, in our terms and conditions or other information relating to use of the Website and the Services;
    • to inform you of surveys, special offers, competitions or other promotions that we are running;
    • to let you know how we are managing your use of the Services (e.g., confirming activation of your membership, informing you of complaints made or decisions we have taken, letting you know that your Membership has been dormant for some time).
  3. How do we collect and use other, non-personal data?

    We also record non-personal data (technical information from your computer):

    Cookies: a cookie is a small text file containing numbers and letters that a website can use to identify which browser is using the Website. When you access the Websites, we may send one or more cookies to your computer. These may be session cookies (which disappear when you shut down your browser) or persistent cookies (which remain after you shut down your browser for subsequent visits to the site). The “help” section of your browser will inform you on how to delete persistent cookies. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent, but disabling cookies may mean that some of the Services or functions on the Website do not function properly or at all.

    Log File Information: when you use the Website, our servers may automatically record information from your web browser (it sends similar information whenever you visit any website), any search data that you enter, your computer and ISP’s IP addresses, your browser and operating system type, version and language, web pages you enter the Website from and exit to, the page of the Website you land on and which pages you navigate to on the Website, the amount of time spent on particular pages, the clicks you make, the date and time, and cookies in your browser.

    Web Beacons: we may use "clear GIFs" (also known as web beacons) which are used (i) to track Website usage patterns anonymously; and/or (ii) in emails we send out in order to track which emails are opened.

    This type of data processing is used to (i) manage the website, track usage and improve the Website and Services; (ii) remember you and store your preferences so that you do not have to re-enter information during your visit or the next time you visit the Websites; (iii) provide tailored or personalized content and information (and prevent you being shown the same advertising on each visit); (iv) analyse the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns; (v) gather data such as total number of users, which pages they viewed, etc. that help us provide and improve the Services; and (vi) keep track of your entries into competitions or surveys carried out using the Website.

    This non-personal data may be shared with third parties in order to provide more relevant Services and advertisements on the Website, but they will not be able to contact you directly using it. Please note that sometimes it is possible that we may allow third party advertisers to set and access their cookies or web beacons on your computer, and although we try to encourage all our advertisers to comply with good personal data processing practices, those cookies and web beacons are not covered by this Privacy Policy. So you can review the privacy policies of these advertisers, their websites are listed [here].

    If the Website, any Content or an advert contains links to other websites, remember that we have no control over these websites and can’t be held responsible for the way they may use any personal data that they may collect from you decide to give them. Bear in mind that their privacy policies may not be as protective as this one or they may be located somewhere where the laws are less strict.

  4. Do we disclose personal data to other people?

    We don’t sell or rent your personal data to anyone so they could contact you directly. The data you provide is stored on our servers and can be accessed by other businesses in our group providing our Services internationally (click [here] for a list of our group companies in other countries).

    Sometimes Occasionally, we may use professional data processing companies to assist us in processing your personal information. If we do, we oblige them to comply with all applicable data protection laws and security measures and with our strict instructions. They would only do this under our supervision and would not be able to use your data for any purpose other than assisting us with the processing.

    We may need to provide certain data to third parties for legal reasons (e.g., when a crime or a breach of security or of our legal rights is suspected or if we are ordered to do so). If sometime in the future our business was sold transferred to another company then your information would also be transferred to them. Unless they obtained your agreement, they would have to continue to process your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy

  5. Can you access and correct your personal data?

    We permit you to access your data by logging in to your Membership page or emailing us at data@miomi.com. You should always correct or ask us to correct any data that are misspelt or out of date as soon as you can. You can ask us to delete your personal data and we will do so as soon as we can – unless for legal reasons we need to keep it for some additional time.

    You can also use the Membership page to opt in or out of receiving certain communications from us, though that means you may not receive certain potentially useful information regarding the Services.

    As the Membership page is so important, you need to ensure that your password is kept secret so we can be as sure as we can be that only you can amend your personal data. We will never ask you for your password except when you log into the Website, and not on the telephone or in an email.

  6. How do we keep your personal data secure?

    Your personal data is password-protected in order to prevent anyone else using your account or changing your data. We use reasonable technical and physical security measures to protect personal data stored in our databases, and only give our staff access to it if and when this is necessary for them to do their job. Unfortunately, security breaches are possible and we can’t be responsible for any unauthorized access to or use of data, any hardware or software failure or any other factor that compromises the security of your data.

  7. Contacting us

    If you have any questions about how we manage personal data, or want to request access to your data, please send us an email to: data@miomi.com or write to us at: The Data Protection Officer, Miomi Limited, 95, The Promenade, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire GL50 1WG
